With a conventional vasectomy, a doctor would make 2 incisions, one on either side of the scrotum. With a scalpel free vasectomy, there is only a single small 2 to 5 mm incision in the middle of the scrotum, through which the entire procedure is performed. The incision is made by puncturing the scrotal skin with a sharp instrument and gently spread it open.
