Vasectomy Myths/ Why men fear Vasectomy

A Vasectomy is costly - false

The Truth : Your total out of pocket fee for a vasectomy is approximately 450 dollars. This is less expensive than many other forms of birth control — and for sure cheaper than another kid!

A vasectomy causes hormonal imbalance and leads to lower testosterone level - false

The truth: Vasectomy is a non-hormonal method of contraception. During a vasectomy, the tubes carrying the sperms are cut to prevent sperms from joining the semen.  The sperms are still produced after a vasectomy. The procedure simply prevents it from mixing with the rest of the ejaculate.

Vasectomy does not affect production and level of testosterone- the male hormone which is produced by the testicle. The testosterone is carried to other parts of our body through the bloodstream.

There is no effect on a man’s voice, hair growth, muscle mass, or any other characteristic influenced by testosterone.

After a vasectomy, sperms will build up in my body - false

The truth: A vasectomy prevents sperm from being released into semen. After a vasectomy, your body will still produce sperms.  Sperm that doesn’t become part of seminal fluid doesn’t float around in your body forever. They are reabsorbed and broken down in your body, which will happen even without a vasectomy. Sperm won’t build up.

With an open-ended vasectomy, any excess sperms will be released in the scrotal fluid for reabsorption. This will prevent any congestion and pain in the testicles.

A vasectomy will kill my sex drive / erections  - false

The truth: A vasectomy will not change your sex drive, sexual desires, or your ability to have erections and ejaculate. The only thing that will change is that your semen will no longer have any sperm in it.

Erections are a result of good blood flow and nerve stimulation to the penis, and this is not affected by a vasectomy.

Sex will hurt or won’t feel as good after a vasectomy - false

The truth:  Sex should not hurt after you have recovered from your vasectomy surgery, which usually takes up to 7 days.

A vasectomy doesn’t impact any of the nerves of the penis, so there’s no change in sensitivity or pleasure. A vasectomy has no impact on the ability to produce or maintain an erection and will not affect the sensations felt during sex and orgasms.

As a matter of fact, sex becomes more pleasurable, spontaneous and carefree as you are no longer worried about accidental pregnancies after a vasectomy

I won’t have any ejaculation (cum) afterwards / my ejaculation would be less - false

The truth:   you’ll pretty much ejaculate the same amount of fluid, as less than 3% of your ejaculate is made of sperms. The other 97% of it comes from the prostate and the seminal vesicles, which are not affected by a vasectomy.

Any decrease in volume of ejaculate after the surgery is unnoticeable.

“Vasectomy surgery takes a long time” – false

The truth: Vasectomies are very quick, surgery time is about 20 minutes from start to finish

Vasectomy surgery is painful. I will have injection into my nuts or my penis” – false

The truth: After the surgery, almost all men are pleasantly surprised on how painless the surgery is. During the procedure, you will have three injections. One to the skin of the scrotum and the other 2 injections into the tube called vas deferens. With each injection you will feel a minor sting which will lasts less than 10 seconds and will be even less uncomfortable with distraction. There are no injections into your penis or testicles.

The surgery only involves a small puncture wound in the scrotal skin which is less than 5 mm and heals up without leaving any scar in 2 weeks

Vasectomy can cause prostate cancer - false
